In Mentoring for Free, we are strongly encouraged to discover and write out our why. Here is a quote from Chapter 2 of Success in 10 Steps where the author, Michael Dlouhy, brings clarity as to why this is so imperative.
“Ninety percent of new businesses fail the first year. And 90% of the rest fail in the next 4 years. THAT is tough. You’re excited. You start. A thousand things go wrong. You want to quit a thousand times.
Most people just quit.
You need a strong enough reason to do it. Then if WHAT you’re doing doesn’t work, you’ll figure out some other way. But if you’re at all wishy-washy, you’re a goner.”
When I came across the beautifully written thoughts by Mother Theresa below, it brought me back to the “WHY” again and how it relates to building a successful home business.
My WHY has grown and changed in my own personal growth. My reason for doing this has kept me from quitting a number of times when I hit those inevitable walls of frustration and doubt that are just part of the process.
And, of course, in this journey of growing a team and helping others, I have seen a handful start and quit because things don’t happen fast enough or as they feel they should. I guess Michael does know what he is talking about after being in network marketing for 30 years and seeing people come and go.
“These facts-and they are facts well known to almost everyone who knew Mr. Carnegie—give you a fair idea of what the reading of this book may bring to you, provided you KNOW WHAT IT IS THAT YOU WANT.” -Napoleon Hill, Introduction of Think and Grow Rich
Skills training, the right system to tie it all together can be right there for someone to take a hold of. However, if one does not know what they want or why they want it, failure and quitting is a possibility.
“People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered… Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives… Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends
and some true enemies… Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you…Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight… Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous… Be happy and serene anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow… Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may Never have been enough… Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it’s between you and God… It was never between you and them anyway!”
-Mother Theresa
Finally, find your reason and put it in writing where you can see it often.
Ultimately, for christians in MLM, all of our WHY’s come back to what God has called each of us individually to do in our life and how the income generated from a thriving network marketing business can help us fulfill that calling.
”Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” -Colossians 3:23-24
All of God’s best,
