Should Christians be in Network Marketing?

John 10:10 says 

  • “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”

Home business is not always easy, but nothing worth having in life comes easily.  However, with the right skills, the right system, the right people guiding & teaching you … and ultimately having God as our primary business partner …

Success in the form of financial reward is absolutely possible.

I once heard one of my mentor’s say,

“To earn more, you must become more.”

That’s the beautiful part.  Becoming the person others want to do business with means becoming a leader and someone who emulates the love and character of Jesus.  This is something dedicated Christian believers aspire to anyway.  Now we have an opportunity to mentor others and earn a living at the same time.

Should Christians even be in Home Business?

I’ve been asked by many Christians from all over the world if it is somehow wrong to be in business for yourself.  

We are all required to “work to eat” as it says in Proverbs.  The way work is done and the reward received varies from person to person.  If you are an employee, the owner of that business is certainly not in the wrong for providing people with the opportunity to work, selling products and services, and reaping the financial benefit from a job well done.

Owning a successful home business allows people to have more freedom.  These freedoms allow us to have income for a comfortable lifestyle, but also the money available to give to one’s local church, missions, and on and on.

Anyone with desire and a willingness to learn can absolutely do well in home business

Courage to take action

I have put together an action plan, that if followed daily, will get the results I am after in building my network marketing business.

After church yesterday, I felt so bold and courageous …. and even more than that, I had HOPE that God truly was at work again in my belief process to build my home business.  The message was even in keeping with all that I had been praying about and studying.

I got home and could not bring myself to open the browser on my PC.

Today, I found numerous other things to do than sit down and get to work.  I finally went to my husband and we prayed together.

So, this evening, I came back to this blog and re-read a post I did some years ago enetield From Why not me? to Why NOT me!!  Network marketing remains an opportunity for people to change their lives and the lives of others by sharing incredible products and the opportunity.  .

If you listen to testimonials of successful people in MLM, you will hear two things repeatedly.

  1. They came to believe that there was something more than just a job and limited income and that they knew it was their’s for the taking.
  2. They learned the skills, and had the courage to put them into practice consistently, and taught others to do the same.

I have the skills, the belief left when I let it.

So …. if you are reading this, it is likely you have walked through the same fire as myself.

Why NOT me!!!!

The power of music always gets me back where I need to be:

It’s about time to:

  • Find that crumpled up belief system

  • Stomp my foot determinedly

  • And REPEAT until believed ….

Finding Christian Prospects – Part 2

In part 1 of this article, I discussed how imperative it is to know WHO we want to work with and where to find them.

Most importantly, I referenced the story of Jesus revealing his ministry to his home town and how vehemently they rejected him.  He ended up with 11 faithful men, as well as a number of women, who devoted themselves to following Him in his life, and sharing His Good News to the world following his death and resurrection.

Jesus had his inner circle.  He developed and equipped them to carry on what He started.

The unity of the handsGod has an inner circle for Christians in Network Marketing as well.  Though I do not consider myself an expert on MLM pay plans, most do not require you to personally recruit  hundreds of people to go “big”!  The skill of developing and equipping like-minded leaders eliminates the necessity of recruiting hundreds and hundreds of people.

Obviously, the core group of leaders in your business are not going to magically appear.  However, I believe in asking God for what we want, with great faith that He will answer.

Places to find Christians who may be looking for you

Facebook:  Here are links to some groups where you can connect with and “watch” other Christian believers.  By watch, I mean pay attention to what they post and how they think.

Facebook is where most social networkers hang out … with Instagram a likely second.

Here is an excellent article which describes and recommends several Christian social networks that might be a perfect fit for you.  Remember that consistent visits and interaction lend credibility to you on any social network.

Don’t forget to simple PRAY and believe God will answer.

It is common to hear people talking to the “Universe” in modern spiritualism–which includes the personal development associated with network marketing.  God and the “universe” are not synonymous for Christians–God created the universe.  So though the laws of attraction, seed time and harvest, asking for what you want and getting it (in a spiritual context) work for many … God is the author of these eternal laws.  He put laws into motion that work.

My point here is to get specific with God regarding who you want to work with and ask for the wisdom and skill to connect with them.  I have seen it happen over and over for me, and I give GOD the glory for it.

And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened

Luke 11:9, 10 

And remember, God is NOT a silent partner in your business, just as He is not a silent partner in your life.

 

Finding your ideal prospects on Facebook

Are prospects really people?

“Ideal Prospect” may seem like a generic term.  “Prospect” has been overused, but here’s a look at 3 of the Dictionary.com definitions:

  • something in view as a source of profit. 
  • a potential or likely customer, client, etc.
  • a potential or likely candidate

In the network marketing industry, prospects are candidates for possible clients and customers that may become a source of profit for us.

Attraction Marketing is about drawing an audience looking for you.  It is a learning process and journey that takes some time.  My education continues at MLSP (MyLeadSystemPro).  While attraction marketing is a life-long learning curve, prospecting on Facebook can create results immediately and recurrently with a few simple steps.

facebook-621x414I think of Facebook as a spring-fed lake with an endless supply of every kind of fish desired.  (For the record, I don’t do the real fishin’ thing)  I do know that certain types of lures catch certain types of fish though.

Fishing for prospects on Facebook begins with knowing exactly what type of fish you want to “catch”.

n my article on Conversational Prospecting on Facebook, there is a referral to some FREE training provided by a fellow MLSP member–who is also a Christian and shares his faith on his blog.

There are countless ways to find prospects ideal for your product and opportunity.  NO ONE does them all.  No one can!

In coaching my own team, I learned that not everyone could find prospects the same way I do.  Knowing their personality, current skills and such helped me to guide them to the appropriate trainings.  I recall during a coaching session with one of my mentors,  I wasn’t sure where to start.  She suggested Facebook–and she was right on.  It’s been the place I have connected with the majority of my team.

I likened it to doing laundry (something as a mother of 4 I have a lot of personal experience with).  We use varying types of detergents and softeners, sort and pretreat in our own special way, we fold and put away our clothes right away or when we are good and ready to.  No right or wrong –just preference.

Are you the type of person who would enjoy and have success with this type of prospecting?

 

My time is valuable.  Your time is valuable.  Before diving in to Facebook training, I suggest you ask yourself these questions:

  1. Do I like hanging out on Facebook.
  2. I can find endless questions to ask someone I am just getting to know (or at least 3-5).
  3. I can type fast (just kidding)

That’s it!  You truly won’t know if you like it until you try it.  You’ll really get excited when you get positive responses in conversations and ultimately recruit opportunity seekers or sell products.

Finding Christian Prospects Part-1

Before there is any misunderstanding … I do not want to work with Christians and Christians ONLY in my network marketing business.

Recently I became laser focused on who my target market was.  After a lot of thought and prayer, I knew God had called me back into the Industry and to offer His Words of encouragement to fellow networkers, as well as to those looking for other Christians to learn from and work with.

be-excitedWhen most network marketers get started, they are really excited about their life-changing products and opportunity!!!  I was!  They’ve been told to talk to anyone and everyone to share this great news!

To our great surprise, not everyone is interested.  Some don’t even want to hear about it and start avoiding us because they are afraid will barf the info all over them again.  Of course, there are those who say yes as well.

Then we start doubting our abilities.  According to legend MLM Trainer, Tom Big Al Schreiter, the enthusiasm generally fades after about 90 days.  In his vast experience, he found that people who were able to move on from that 90-day mark were the “keepers”.

This is OLD news to most of you reading this.

My recent “Ah-hah Moment”!

I once was on a training call hosted by Holton Buggs (a top earner for many years) and heard him say that the one commodity that will never run out is ….

PEOPLE

Our world is full of people looking for the products, services and opportunities associated with the network marketing industry.  People are what build this companies.  They cannot do it without us!

But how do we find these people?

There are countless ways … which I will not elaborate on in this particular post.

There are many people groups that can be targeted by:

  • Age
  • Educational and occupational backgrounds
  • Gender
  • Geographical regions
  • Belief systems

I have my personal favorites at this time that I feel most comfortable approaching.  Again, that doesn’t mean I won’t work with people outside of that group of people, just feel more comfortable approaching and targetting their business.  As people develop personally and professionally in this business, that demographic WILL change.

Jesus is a prime example

As I read the gospels, I become aware of how few truly saw who Jesus was and what He could do for them.  Of course, the religious leaders were the biggest culprits.  However, even countless people that he healed did not become His followers immediately or even at all.

Jesus was rejected completely by his home town crowd in Nazareth.  In fact they tried to throw him off a cliff. (Luke 4:14-28).  But, he attracted and found his “few” men which we knew as His disciples.  There were also a number of women (Mary’s in particular) that were loyal followers during his ministry.

Mr Buggs’ comment and this story helped me realize I can trust God to bring the people He desires me to serve–Christian or non-Christian.  They aren’t going to just magically appear, but I can speak to the masses through this wonderful thing called the internet and take the volunteers who raise their hand and say “YES, I want to do this too!”

Remember, God is not a silent partner in your business, just as He is not a silent partner in your life.

CONFESSION … of a burned-out Christian Network Marketer.

Today, I made time to come back to this blog as I had not been here in a while.  As I re-read many of my posts, my own belief was reignited.

I had taken a break from network marketing for a while.  The company I was doing so well in changed their pay plan, I lost my paycheck, my team, and my belief.  No one to blame but myself for my inactivity, but God has not let me give up the dreams I had and still have to help others reach their own goals and dreams through the wonderful Industry of Multi-Level-Marketing.

I first heard Israel Houghton’s rendition of “Movin’ Forward” about a year ago. It been out for a while by that time.

Everyone walks through tough times. Mine are no different than most people.

Childlessness and infertility were replaced with 4 beautiful children that came just as God had planned all along.

Financial struggles.

Relationship changes

On and on ….

I love the 4th chapter of Philippians and almost have it memorized. Paul was in prison when he wrote this letter. These are my favorite verses I cling to often: (verses 12-13)

 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry,whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

As mentioned above, one area of my life in recent years that I have allowed to cause me significant distress is my inability to be successful in my home business.

They say 97% of ALL businesses do not last the first 2 years. My first two years were moderately successful–in Industry standards. Then things changed. Rather than fighting my way through the process of change, I allowed myself to become disollusioned and discouraged. Finally, I just gave up, and did all I knew to do to be content with my busy life taking care of my kids–my highest calling as a servant of Christ.

Recently, hope has sprung forth like I never thought it would again.

Finally … something that doesn’t require selling in the uncomfortable state it has been in the past.

I was at a leadership event this past weekend and I heard some of the basics of building strong teams in our network marketing companies.

MLM Basics inspired by Tom Big Al Schreiter:

1. Learn how to talk to people.
2. Find people to talk to.
3. Take the volunteers.

The second impactful simple truth was this:

We all understand that in order to become a great leader, you must become a great follower. One of the leaders at the meeting pointed out that she really makes no conscious effort in being a leader, but in following and doing what other leaders do. Simple, I realize, but that is the point. Another leader shared that as one concentrates their effort in following other successful people, pretty soon, one can look behind them and “Lo and behold there are people following you!”

My local church’ mantra is Folloow-Lead-Serve. The more I see that on the wall, the more I ponder it, the more I realize it applies to every area of my life, and of course to my business. Jesus’ disciples followed Him and learned and observed. After His return to Heaven, they were the leaders that others began to follow. That has continued to this day.

And of course, leadership without servanthood in life and specifically in network marketing, is really not leadership at all.

Hope these simple reminders inspire you to keep following those in your circle or outside that are where you want to be in your business.

“The Greatest Secret” by Ron McIntosh

“The Greatest Secret” by Ron McIntosh

Hello Fellow Christians in MLM,

I wanted to share a valuable and inspirational resource with you this week that is changing the mindset and life of myself and many of my own team.

Ron McIntosh has written a book entitled “The Greatest Secret“. It is a Biblical prospective on the Law of Attraction and so much more.  He also has an audio series entitled “Barrier Busters” which are Biblically-based meditation audios on various topics.

Jesus said clearly “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life and no one can come to the Father but by me.” John 14:6

You will find the truth setting you free as you study any of Ron’s materials. You’ll especially appreciate his take on “set points” that keep us from moving forward past where we have always been comfortable.

What does this have to do with MLM? “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Proverbs 23:7
